Sreesanth and Slapgate
After Sreesanth got slapped by Harbhajan, his performance in the IPL series has gone up by leaps and bounds. Not only is he taking wickets, but he is also fielding like a champ.
Moral of story - Slapping helps Indian cricketers be more productive.

IPL cricket team names
IPL - the Indian Premier League is the rage of the country now. I believe the shortest version of the game has caught on with everyone, especially given the fact that we are already cricket crazy.
But the names that the different franchises have chosen are downright confusing if not weird. Here are my suggestions :
Mumbai Marathas
Bangalore Silicons
Hyderabad Nawabs
Delhi Mughals
Punjab Turbans
Kolkota Bongs
Rajasthan Rajputs
Chennai Pandyas

A deep connection

Bhajji and Symmo have an umbilical cord. I think they were separated at birth. They are always trying to have a relationship and the media intrudes into their privacy. It is very obvious that they are really into each other.
In the second test at Sydney , they attempted to have some intimacy and it was completely thwarted by the knuckleheaded media. Symmo complained that Bhajji was moving too fast and he needs to take his time and give him some space. Later they kissed and made up.
Later this year, they will make another attempt. I sincerely predict that India's "teeming millions" will intrude and make a mess. Lets all join hands together and wish the couple well.

We will win the next one too !!!
This picture says everything. Twenty years ago , the Caribbean islands were the last frontier in cricket. Today it is Australia and the Indian team showed that they could win when pushed. They showed that they have strength when it mattered the most. Standing tall together in all departments of the game, this win would be remembered for a long time.
Interestingly Pont
ing and his men seem to be perturbed by Kumble's statement. One can see it in their body language and behaviour - even the sledging looks weak :)

Chak De India
We are all driven by our inherent selfishness. The successful man figures a way to use that selfishness to his own benefit. Capitalism is a vehicle whose fuel is this basic need to elevate oneself. But I guess too much aforementioned "elevation" can prove detrimental to the capitalist bosses in the West's ivory towers. One can visualize them squirming at the prospect of losing to India and China.
I am observing the anger and resentment at the Tata Nano. In fact there seems to be insecurity in the West's reaction to the car. But I really want to see the Jaguar being owned by an Indian company. It would be a good opportunity to teach the "good ol British blokes" how capitalism can bite one in the a$$.

Bring them back !
Everytime any opponent of the Australian cricket team gains a lead or seems capable of defeating them, all varieties of accusations and allegations are levelled. These range from downright silly to the completely absurd.
The first test went without incident simply because the Australians were never challenged in any department by the Indians. But the second test is a different story altogether. Hey - these Indian chaps are now fighting back - lets screw them over with some real high quality mud slinging. Lets even call Harbajan a racist - he batted pretty well - we dont want any of that in the coming tests!
If we take a look back in time we can see that every visiting team gets hammered with a barrage of nonsense for example Murlitharan's and Harbajan's bowling actions. The second test was rigged to an extent that it was impossible to watch. All the Australians have to do is appeal and the batsman is given out.
This time its gone too far. Really, the Aussies have lost it this time - Ponting is under tremendous pressure to prove that he is a worthy successor to Steve Waugh. So everything goes !!
Interestingly , the Australians are a very good cricket team. They can win easily without resorting to such low tactics. The Indian team needs to come back.

Raider Nation
Spent this Sunday at the Oakland Colisuem. The Raiders executed brilliantly and finished in style. All the screaming, yelling and cussing left my throat sore for a couple of days. But it was worth it knowing that Raider victories dont come by often ;)

And he fails again !
Roger Federer fails again at Roland Garros. He really doesn't want to win by playing defense. Its all about winning in style and its all about hitting those topspin backhands. The small section of the match when he used his backhand slices and chipped and charged to the net, he won. Funny at that juncture I really thought he had wrapped the match up. He needs help if he wants to win on the red clay.

Desh Trip
Trip to India 2007 - was very fruitful. Got to meet everyone I wanted to meet. Notes :
1. Domestic airports are akin to railroad stations. Very crowded. Everyone is flying. Way cool !
1.5 Jet Airways and Jet Lite ;)
2. Traffic in Bangalore is maddening. Designed to intimidate. I spent an average of about an hour moving from place to place.
3. Service levels are very high. Good value for money.
4. English is more common. Autorickshaw "Basha" in Chennai spoke deshent English to me. I am impressed. Of course, man had a cell phone as well !
5. Cell phones are ubiquitous. And the cell phone services providers do provide awesome value. True capitalistic setup. No "cingular" or "sprint" like providers arm twisting with yearly contracts. Customer is king !
6. Food is very good. Of course ;)
7. People are friendly too ( I had to write this one). Light at the end of the tunnel ? Maybe.
8. Did I say traffic in Bangalore sucks ? Even on the weekend. OK - maybe the weekend theory is only catching up.

Inzy

Inzy was a great cricket player. He was dependable. Also very dependable to get run out consistently. If he had improved his running between the wickets, he might have been the best ever. I remember seeing him as a kid hammering the Kiwis all over during the WC 1992 semi-final. Note that he is the second highest run getter in ODI's.
